MeSSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
2025 has been a memorable year at the Club, with our Stewards Paul and Jo leaving for pastures new and the Club moving away from our traditional employment of two Stewards to a single Steward Ken with the kitchen being run by Sally. We were all sad to see Paul and Jo leave after so many successful years with us, but we are delighted with the enthusiasm and gentle humour that Ken brings to the Club. Sally’s food and indeed Sal’s Specials, have proved a great success and the kitchen seems to get busier every week. Sally’s Sunday Lunches and her Christmas Meals have been a resounding success, and I am sure you will need to book early for Sunday Lunches next year
The last few weeks at the Club have been extremely busy and I thank Ken, Alex, Sally and Geoff for all their hard work on the bar and in the kitchen. Particular thanks go the Alex and Sally for their support and dedication during the period between Stewards and to Geoff for his organisation of the Club at this time. I would also like to thank Lauren, together with Sally, for keeping our Club clean and tidy and thanks go to our hardworking Committee for all they do for our Club.
Thanks also go to Colin and Chris, the Two Old Rockers and the Fab Four for organising a variety of social functions, and Graham and Linda Brignull for keeping us fit with their Boxercise sessions. Several Barbecues have taken place during the summer, and I would like to thank Derek, David, and Chris our Chefs and those who assisted them. Thank you to all those members who help with preparations and clearing away tables and chairs after events.
As always New Year’s Eve is fully booked and Wednesday Night Bingo with Austin and Debbie continues to be well supported. Another successful day at Chelmsford Racecourse took place in August, and members also enjoyed a day at Romford Dogs. Two popular weekend trips were organised, one in March by Lloyd Brown and the other in October by Paul and Jo, which was managed by Linda Brignull. I would like to thank all those who have organised events and of course our members for supporting them. I’m sure we will enjoy another busy and successful programme in 2026.
Christmas market day again provided us with an opportunity to run a successful outside bar with mulled wine proving a hot favourite. Once again, we have had an influx of new members and our membership currently stands at just under 700. We are fortunate to have a thriving Club, but with a Grade 2* listed building there is always something that needs repairing. At present we are waiting for repairs to the roof. The acquisition of a new stair lift we hope will have been of great benefit to those members who have difficulty managing the stairs.
.
It is pleasing to see early evenings continue to be popular, with Friday evening becoming very busy. Our two Ladies Darts Teams playing alternate Thursdays and our Monday Evening Darts Team continue to do well. We are also privileged to support meetings held by the Lions, Rotary, and British Legion, with many of their members becoming members of our Club as well.
Finally thank you all for your continued support and on behalf of the Committee I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2026.
With kind regards
Graham Saville
